December 2015 Newsletter – Christmas Gift Guide

Farpoint’s Christmas Gift Guide – A rundown of this year’s best tech.

This has been an exciting year for technology – We’ve seen one of the most interesting release schedules from both Bose and Apple with new products from either side. There have been many new products and a vast number of updates to our old, firm favourites.

Here’s a run down of my personal favourite products of the last year:

iPad Mini 4.

A great deal more, same great size!

Although overshadowed by the new iPad Pro, the iPad Mini has seen significant improvements from the previous generation iPad Mini 2 and 3. For quite some time there has been a small lapse in performance when going from the original size iPad to the Mini but this is no longer the case as the iPad Mini now contains the same internal components as the iPad Air 2. If you’re looking to still work without the need to carry something as large as the iPad Pro you should look no further than this!

Available from £319 in Silver, Space Grey, and Gold.

12″ MacBook.

A travel essential for those who face more than the daily commute.

With the advent of this new MacBook, Apple pushed the boat further than usual with the ultra slim chassis and svelte styling. To offset the single USB-C port the MacBook is equipped with the absolutely latest in wireless protocols, the keyboard is slimmer and yet still responsive and, to complete the package, the MacBook includes the new Force Trackpad for unique gestures.
For those embracing new technology, the MacBook has become the thinnest and lightest laptop in the range, an ultra portable machine that has surpassed the MacBook Air as my recommendation for those on the move.

Available from £1049 in Silver, Space Grey, and Gold.

Bose SoundLink Around Ear.

Wireless and effortless. The best audio experience – untethered.

These new Bluetooth headphones offer a distinctly better sound than the previous generation’s AE2w models (which were no slouch by any means!). Gone is the clunky bluetooth module that the headphones used to have – replaced with a sleek and stylish new redesign. Amongst these headphones key selling points is a 15 hour battery life, an in-built microphone for phone calls and audio experience that far outperforms it’s price point. Charging is via micro USB and a 15 minute charge will give you 2 hours of audio!

Available for £239.95 in Black and White.

Bose SoundTouch 10.

Wireless streaming and connectivity that outperforms it’s size!

DecNewsletter_5

The Soundtouch 10 is the newest speaker in the SoundTouch family, joining the larger siblings of the 20 and 30 models. This version is more discreet than the latter and offers a sound that is far greater than it’s smaller size would suggest. The SoundTouch models are still my favourite expandable speaker range – you can add another speaker at a later date and have the same music playing in different rooms. If you’re looking for a more simplistic portable speaker, the SoundLink Mini may be a better fit but if you’re looking to stream music from Spotify, Deezer or other services around the house then I would give considerable thought to this unit!

Available for £169.95 in Black and White.

Bose SoundTouch 120.

Striking Cinema and Home Entertainment System.

DecNewsletter_3

Between now and 16th January 2016 revive a FREE SoundLink Colour in Black with every purchase of a SoundTouch 120.

The SoundTouch 120 is an all-round great performer offering an outstanding cinema-like experience with top of the line home multimedia support! The sound bar styled speaker on this model really shines, with directional speakers and Adapt-IQ technology (that scans your room and suits the sound to the layout!). The bass unit, equally a stroke of genius, is wireless and can be slotted away anywhere within 30′ of the main speaker. The SoundTouch component means that as well as great sound for your TV you can also enjoy music wirelessly streamed through either a local computer or streaming services such as Deezer, Spotify or internet radio.

Available for £1000.

Honourable Mentions…

Targus Travel Dock (£89.99)

With this Travel Dock you can connect several devices including 2 displays (VGA and HDMI), Ethernet, USB 3.0 and Micro USB – all from a single USB 3.0 Port! This really is an invaluable device for anyone who regularly travels or gives presentations.

Logitech Keys-to-go (£49.99)

When using your iPad for work there’s no need to remove it from the beautiful case that you’ve purchased! The Keys-to-go keyboard is a perfect accompaniment to your iPad, with stylish colours and a spill proof and dirt proof covering!
